History Dig: Students can work in groups to delve into the history
of their
town/city. Compare their findings with the same information from your
BICpals.
How are they alike and different?
- Some students can make a timeline to show the development of the
town.
- Others can take photos or draw pictures of special places in the
town:
monuments, parks, arenas, physical features.
- Add some background information and captions and share them with
your BIC pals.
My Town/City/State is Famous for. . .: Students can work in teams
or groups
to find interesting facts about their town/city/state. Then challenge
students
to devise interesting ways to share the information. Some things to
look for:
- Is it known for something special? (Detroit/cars, Hershey/candy)
- Were any famous people born there? (heroes, politicians, sports
figures,
astronauts)
- Does your town/city/state have a nickname? (Lone Star, Nutmeg)
- What is the flower of the state where your town is located? state
bird?
- What other things are interesting about your town/city/state? Do
you have
local legends? a motto? a state crest?
