History Dig: Students can work in groups to delve into the history of their town/city. Compare their findings with the same information from your BICpals. How are they alike and different?

  • Some students can make a timeline to show the development of the town.
  • Others can take photos or draw pictures of special places in the town: monuments, parks, arenas, physical features.
  • Add some background information and captions and share them with your BIC pals.

My Town/City/State is Famous for. . .: Students can work in teams or groups to find interesting facts about their town/city/state. Then challenge students to devise interesting ways to share the information. Some things to look for:

  • Were any famous people born there? (heroes, politicians, sports figures, astronauts)
  • Does your town/city/state have a nickname? (Lone Star, Nutmeg)
  • What is the flower of the state where your town is located? state bird?
  • What other things are interesting about your town/city/state? Do you have local legends? a motto? a state crest?
